GAIAS Europa was the venue for the Innova Europa programme, an initiative that brought together international experts, researchers and academic managers in Valencia to strengthen skills in the design and management of projects funded by the European Union. The meeting offered comprehensive training on access to Erasmus+, Capacity Building and Horizon funds, combining theoretical sessions, practical workshops and networking opportunities.
Over five days, participants explored the entire process of formulating European proposals: from conceptual design and the development of the logical framework to the creation of interdisciplinary consortia, the definition of budgets and the planning of work packages. The programme culminated in the drafting of collaborative projects, the result of joint work between representatives of universities and research centres from different countries.
The workshop was led by Mark Majewsky, a research and innovation specialist and current Director of Passage to ASEAN, a network of 145 universities in Southeast Asia. Majewsky, who has extensive experience at Glasgow Caledonian University, shared his expertise in managing more than 175 projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in promoting international cooperation in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
The Innova Europa programme seeks to strengthen collaboration between universities in the European Union and the Global South, promoting the quality and relevance of higher education, intercultural understanding and the use of education as a driver of sustainable development. With funding ranging from €250,000 to €1 million, these projects offer strategic opportunities for the internationalisation of academic institutions.
With the conclusion of this edition, we reaffirm our commitment to training in research and innovation, international cooperation and academic excellence, consolidating our position as a benchmark for the creation of alliances and the generation of knowledge in the service of global progress.
